Fat2Flaca.com is the Blog of a young, Puerto-Rican, fashionista, Chicagoan, Janeida Rivera, who underwent a Verticle Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) on April 25, 2012 and is on a mission to share her Latino Weight Loss Surgery(WLS) experience, find support and even make friends with other Latinos in the process getting healthier. Fat2Flaca shares her personal healthy recipes, exercise tips, and honest personal experiences as she attempts to lose 200 lbs after undergoing WLS. Weight Loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle were never topics discussed in Janeida’s traditional Puerto Rican household, where if you didn’t clean your plate it was an insult and if you tried to eat healthier you were teased relentlessly. Fat2Flaca was not only created for everyone to witness my transformation after undergoing bariatric surgery, but to create a safe space for other Latin@s (and others) of all ages, sizes and colors, where there is no body policing, racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic discrimination, sizism, Spanglish or slang shunning. A space where friends and family could be motivated to begin their own and support one another’s strides towards a healthier lifestyle and not just swap tips on diets or focus on numbers, but more so on feeling healthy/healthier. Janeida decided to take control of her health and believes it is her mission to be an open book while she reaches her fitness goals and provides a forum for other people who share similar health ambitions and don’t feel they have a forum to do so in. As a woman who believes that plus women can be fit, she shares her healthy recipes, local free or affordable workout activities, exercise tips and chronicles her journey towards a healthier lifestyle via photos and blogs.
Fat2Flaca also blogs about her passion for plus size fashion. As a young woman, Janeida grew frustrated with the inaccessibility to fashionable plus clothing and found herself researching plus fashion until she became the local go-to big girl for honestfashion advice and direction. Janeida has always been interested in sharing her opinions of local and national plus designers and stores with other full figured women, who either do not have access to research their fashion options or have limited knowledge of what options are now available to them with a fast growing plus fashion industry. As an official blogger for Plus Fashion Week Chicago and a Spoken Word Artist with performance troupe, Thyck Troupe Chicago, Fat2Flaca provides an informed opinion from the perspective of a real consumer about plus fashion stores, their clothing and accessories, reflections on local fashion events, plus size store sales, and blogs about the life of being plus and fabulous in Chicago.
